Registration Cum Membership Certificate (RCMC) is an essential registration for exporters and importers in India. It is issued by Export Promotion Councils (EPCs), Commodity Boards, and Government-authorized bodies. Businesses engaged in international trade require RCMC to avail benefits under the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), export incentives, and various government schemes.
RCMC serves as proof that the exporter is recognized by the relevant Export Promotion Council and is authorized to export products under its jurisdiction.

Process Flow Chart
Step 1: Business Entity FormationEstablish a legal business entity before applying — this can be a Proprietorship, Partnership Firm, LLP, Private Limited Company, or Public Limited Company. The entity type determines the documentation needed later (e.g., Partnership Deed, Certificate of Incorporation, MOA/AOA). This forms the legal foundation for all subsequent registrations.
Step 2: PAN ApplicationObtain a Permanent Account Number (PAN) in the name of the business entity from the Income Tax Department. PAN is mandatory for tax identification and is a prerequisite for opening a bank account and applying for IEC — it cannot be skipped or substituted.
Step 3: Current Bank AccountOpen a current account (not savings) with a scheduled bank in the business entity's name. This account is used for all export-import transactions and its details (account number, IFSC code, bank certificate) must be furnished during IEC and APEDA applications.
Step 4: Apply for IEC CodeApply for the Import Export Code (IEC) through the DGFT (Directorate General of Foreign Trade) portal. IEC is a 10-digit code mandatory for anyone engaging in import/export from India, and it's a core prerequisite for APEDA registration.
Step 5: Prepare Required DocumentsCompile all necessary documents: IEC certificate, PAN card, bank certificate/cancelled cheque, business registration proof (incorporation certificate/partnership deed), passport-size photograph of the applicant/authorized signatory, and the registration fee payment details.
Step 6: Online APEDA RegistrationSubmit the registration application on the APEDA website (apeda.gov.in) by filling out the online form, uploading scanned documents, and paying the prescribed registration fee online (via net banking/card).
Step 7: Application VerificationAPEDA reviews the submitted application and documents for accuracy and completeness. Any discrepancies or missing information may result in queries being raised, which the applicant must resolve promptly to avoid delays.
Step 8: RCMC GenerationUpon successful verification, APEDA generates the Registration-cum-Membership Certificate (RCMC) — the official document certifying the exporter's registration with APEDA for scheduled products.
Step 9: Exporter Registration ActivatedThe exporter's registration becomes active in APEDA's system, granting access to APEDA's support schemes, subsidies, market development assistance, and eligibility for export incentives applicable to registered exporters.
Step 10: Start Export OperationsWith RCMC in hand, the exporter is legally authorized to commence export of scheduled agricultural and processed food products, avail APEDA's promotional and financial assistance programs, and participate in trade fairs/buyer-seller meets facilitated by APEDA.
